Most of my photography business has been focused on studio single subjects. It happens to be the niche that I feel is where I’m best overall. I do like to break out and try other things, but when you get known for your style and service, that’s what people come to you for.
You can just imagine my excitement when I got a phone call from a young lady asking if I would be available for a maternity session. She explained that she scheduled a session with a new photographer and at the last minute, he backed out on them. To make matters worse, she was a couple of weeks away from her due date. The young lady desperately was looking for a maternity session to have those precious moments to look back on.
I told her that I would love to do her maternity session, but was upfront about never having done one before. To help us both out I made her a real bargain to have the special opportunity. We made the session plans over the phone and I emailed her the standard information I give everyone before a session.
Session day roles around and Cree Ann and her fiancé James come into the studio. Needless to say, I was shocked when I first met them. Cree Ann appeared like she may deliver at any moment. We talked a bit before the session since this was our first face-to-face meeting. I wanted to put them at ease and break the ice from being strangers.
We went into the studio and got to work. I already had some ideas in mind and had the studio ready to go. The session was to shoot the couple together and Cree Ann alone. These two were great to work with and a nice couple just getting their family started. The session was short, but it was productive. I didn’t want to tire or stress her, but still wanted to capture some really special images for them.
For my first maternity session, I thought it went well. They were very happy with the images and talked to me about doing a session with the baby once she was born. We all felt like we had a great time and the session gave them those special moments she was looking forward to having.
I am happy to present to you images from Cree Ann’s and James’ maternity sessions.
Photographically yours,
Larry
