A Champion Arrives

The year was 2009, the country was in a recession and I had just moved to Pittsburgh. It was an unsure time when I wasn’t sure what my future had in store. It definitely didn’t appear to be a good time to start up a photography business. However, I had the itch and just wanted to do a portrait session even if I had to do it for free. So I reached out on a few social media sites and got very little interest. One of the very few that had shown any interest was a young lady named Rose. So after a few emails and phone calls Rose and I set up a session.

If you’ve ever heard the phrase, never judge a book by its cover, I can’t think of a better person to whom this relates more than Rose. Rose and her boyfriend are suspension artists. For those who don’t know what that is, let me enlighten you. Suspension artists have hooks run through their bodies and are pulled up in the air, thus suspended by their skin. I know what you’re probably thinking, that sounds really freaky. Let’s go back to the Don’t judge a book by the cover. We have a beautiful young lady, who’s covered in tattoos, and body piercings, has a spit tongue, and goes around the country flying through the air with hooks in her skin. Doesn’t sound like the girl you want to bring home to meet Mom until you get to know her.

Just a few minutes after Rose arrived at my home studio, I realized outside appearance was just a fraction of the total person. Rose is a sweet enjoyable person to be around. We had a photo session that lasted about an hour. But we hung out and had one of the most enjoyable conversations I’ve ever had for a couple of hours after. She is such an easy person to get to know and just fun to hang out with. Rose really gave me a warm welcome to my new home city and a photo session, I’ll never forget. Thank you, Rose!

I’ve got to come clean here. As great as Rose was to work with, I don’t feel I really delivered on my end. I tried to do too much and it technically didn’t make for the best images. But I still want to share some of the images created by the amazing young lady.

Photographically yours,
Larry
